Author Matthew Reilly’s books over the years, from “Contest” and “Ice Station” through “Area 7” and his Jack West Jr. series, are novels that would be perfect to turn into the kind of ridiculous big blockbusters that permeated late 1990s cinema.

Now he tries his hand at directing with the upcoming action film “Interceptor” for Netflix which stars “Fast and Furious” alum Elsa Pataky as JJ Collins, a hardened military captain in charge of a lone nuclear missile interceptor base in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

The base soon comes under a simultaneous coordinated attack from a team of mercenaries, led by a former US military intelligence officer intent on nuclear destruction.

Luke Bracey, Aaron Glenane, Mayen Mehta, Rhys Muldoon, Belinda Jombwe, Marcus Johnson, Colin Friels and Zoe Carides also co-star in the film which has Pataky’s husband Chris Hemsworth executive producing while “Extraction” director Sam Hargrave was the stunt coordinator.

Reilly co-wrote the script with Stuart Beattie. “Interceptor” will be released on the service on June 3rd.
