Trailer: Kristen Stewart’s “Chronology of Water”

The Forge

The first trailer has been released for the biographical romantic drama “The Chronology of Water,” based on the 2011 autobiographical novel by Lidia Yuknavitch.

Acclaimed actress Kristen Stewart makes her feature film directorial debut on the project, which stars Imogen Poots as a professional swimmer and Olympic hopeful who is on a journey of self-exploration.

The film traces Lidia’s life from her earliest memories in the Pacific Northwest, as a promising swimmer, through fractured relationships, a raging father, an alcoholic and suicidal mother, near-motherhood, addiction, promiscuous sex, and encounters with artistic heroes.

Told as a fluid memory wash, the story transforms trauma into art, embodying Yuknavitch’s defiant voice. It is not only a chronicle of a woman becoming a writer, but a visceral journey through the wreckage and resilience of a life lived against the grain.

The film also stars Thora Birch as Claudia, Susannah Flood as Dorothy, Tom Sturridge as Kevin, and Jim Belushi as Ken Kesey.

“The Chronology of Water” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and sits at a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. It hits select cinemas on December 5th and goes wide on January 9th.
