Trailer: Idris Elba In “Hijack” Season 2

Apple TV+

Apple TV has premiered the official trailer for the second season of the Idris Elba-led action thriller series “Hijack,” which returns on January 14th.

The series is going from planes to trains for the second outing as a Berlin underground train and its commuters are taken hostage, while authorities scramble to save hundreds of lives. Sam Nelson (Elba) is at the heart of the crisis on board, where one wrong decision could spell disaster.

The first season unfolded in real-time onboard a Dubai to London flight, which gets hijacked and followed not just Elba’s talented business negotiator character onboard, but traffic controllers, authorities and criminals on the ground with a vested interest in the flight.

The new season is expected to do the same. Archie Panjabi, Christine Adams and Max Beesley return from the first season and joining them this time out are Toby Jones, Christian Näthe, Clare-Hope Ashitey, Lisa Vicari, Karima McAdams and Christiane Paul.

The series hails from “Lupin” creator George Kay and BAFTA-nominated Jim Field Smith. Originally intended as a standalone limited series, the first season became a breakout hit and one of the streamer’s most-watched dramas, along with landing Elba an Emmy nomination.

The release comes as Elba made headlines at the Red Sea International Film Festival this week, the 53-year-old to promote his new short film “Dust To Dreams,” his second directorial project after “Yardie”. He indicates he’s considering retiring from acting and transferring fully to directing sometime in the near future.
