Trailer: Hawke, Pascal In Almodovar Western

El Deseo

Pathe UK has released the first trailer for celebrated Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar’s Western film short “Strange Way of Life” starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal.

The “Volver,” “The Skin I Live In”, and “Pain and Glory” director best known for hits glossy colored, quirky humored, sensual melodramas tries his hand at a cowboy romance tale and the results are interesting.

In the film a middle-aged man named Silva (Pascal) rides a horse across the desert that separates him from Bitter Creek. He comes to visit Sheriff Jake (Hawke). Twenty-five years earlier, both the sheriff and Silva worked together as hired gunmen.

Silva visits him with the excuse of reuniting with his friend from his youth, and they do indeed celebrate their meeting, but the next morning Sheriff Jake tells him that the reason for his trip is not to go down the memory lane of their old friendship.

Pedro Casablanc, Manu Ríos, George Steane, José Condessa, Jason Fernández, Sara Sálamo, Ohiana Cueto and Daniela Medina co-star, whilst Alberto Iglesias is handling the music.

The project marks Almodovar’s second English-language short following Tilda Swinton-led “The Human Voice”, which premiered at Venice in 2020. The short will have its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and will score a theatrical release on August 16th.
