The first trailer has been released for Guy Ritchie’s war zone-set $55 million action-thriller feature “The Covenant” which MGM and Amazon are releasing in cinemas on April 21st.
The story follows US Army Sergeant John Kinley (Gyllenhaal) and Afghan interpreter Ahmed (Dar Salim). When their unit is ambushed on patrol, Kinley and Ahmed are the only survivors, and with enemy combatants in pursuit, Ahmed risks his life to carry an injured Kinley across miles of grueling terrain to safety.
When Kinley learns that Ahmed and his family were not given safe passage to America as promised, he must repay his debt by returning to the war zone to retrieve them before the Taliban hunts them down first.
Alexander Ludwig, Antony Starr, Jason Wong, Bobby Schofield, Sean Sagar, Sina Parvaneh, Emily Beecham, Cyrus Khodaveisi and Christian Ochoa co-star.
Gyllenhaal has been filming the remake of “Road House” for Doug Liman and is coming off several action and thriller films like Michael Bay’s “Ambulance” and Antoine Fuqua’s “The Guilty”.
The release comes as Ritchie is also busy as with his “Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre” finally scoring a March 17th release date in the U.S. and production just getting underway on “The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare”. He also has Disney live-action films “Hercules” and “Aladdin 2” on the way.
“The Covenant” is expected to hit Amazon Prime Video after its theatrical run..
