Netflix has released the trailer for the drama film adaptation of John Preston’s 2007 novel “The Dig” which is based the real-life events of the 1939 excavation of Sutton Hoo.
As WWII looms, a wealthy widow (Carey Mulligan) hires an amateur archaeologist (Ralph Fiennes) to excavate the burial mounds on her estate. When they make a historic discovery of an ancient Anglo-Saxon burial site, the echoes of Britain’s past resonate in the face of its uncertain future.
Simon Stone (“The Daughter”) directs from a screenplay adapted by “Harlots” creator Moira Buffini. Lily James, Ben Chaplin, Ken Stott and Monica Dolan co-star in the film which will arrive in select cinemas on January 15th followed by its streaming debut on January 29th.
