Tony McNamara, who penned Oscar winner “The Favourite,” brings that film’s darkly comic and irreverent sensibility to the story of long-reigning Russian empress Catherine The Great with Hulu’s upcoming series “The Great”.
The story follows Elle Fanning as Catherine, a young woman who becomes the wife of the young and rather inept ruler of Russia (Nicholas Hoult). While she’s not very experienced in things such as ruling and being a proper lady, she does have higher aspirations and soon sets her sights set on the throne.
Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Sebastian de Souza, Bayo Gbadamosi, and Belinda Bromilow co-star in the series which premiered May 15th.
