MGM has premiered the trailer for “Cyrano,” the Joe Wright-directed musical film adaptation of the 2018 stage reinvention of Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac story.
Four-time Emmy winner Peter Dinklage will return in the title role he played onstage alongside his co-star Haley Bennett as Roxanne.
The romantic saga stems around a historical 17th-century writer and libertine. The young Cyrano falls in love with the beautiful noblewoman Roxanne but fears rejection due to his short stature (a change from the original story’s ‘extra large nose’ macguffin).
Eager to win Roxanne’s heart, Cyrano enlists his friend Christian (Kelvin Harrison Jr. ) to impersonate him, but once Christian also falls for Roxanne, a tragedy of errors ensues.
Brian Tyree Henry and Ben Mendelsohn also star in supporting roles while Guy Heeley, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner produce. The film features music written by members of The National alongside original songs from the play.
