Trailer: Daniel Day-Lewis In “Anemone”

Focus Features

Eight years after effectively retiring from acting in 2017 with Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Phantom Thread,” Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis has returned for “Anemone”.

Focus Features and Plan B are behind the film, which hails from the celebrated actor’s son, Ronan Day-Lewis. Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green also star in the dark thriller.

Set in the late 1980s in Yorkshire, the story reportedly revolves around two estranged brothers – a suburban dweller (Bean) and an ex-soldier turned reclusive hermit living in the woods (Day‑Lewis). The pair confront buried trauma from their past.

Also, “family bonds between fathers, sons and brothers are explored as complex relationships unfold through personal journeys and generational conflicts” according to an official synopsis.

Father and son co-wrote the film’s script, and Universal Pictures International will distribute internationally for Focus.

“Anemone” will premiere at the 2025 New York Film Festival, beginning late September. A limited theatrical release in the U.S. is scheduled for October  3rd, with expansion on October 10th.
