The first trailer has been released of Spyglass and Smokehouse’s adaptation of Daniel James Brown’s acclaimed 2013 non-fiction novel “The Boys in the Boat”.
The triumphant true story follows the 1936 University of Washington men’s rowing team who competed for gold at the Berlin Olympic games.
This group of underdogs during the height of the Great Depression are thrust into the spotlight and take on elite international rivals – ultimately winning gold and stunning the world with their victory.
Callum Turner, Joel Edgerton, James Wolk, Jack Mulhern, Sam Strike, Luke Slattery, Courtney Henggeler, Thomas Elms, Tom Varey, Bruce Herbelin-Earle, Wil Coban and Hadley Robinson star.
Mark L. Smith adapted the screenplay with Chris Weitz penning a previous draft. The project is being directed by George Clooney who also produces alongside Grant Heslov and Donna Gigliotti.
“The Boys in the Boat” will debut in cinemas from Christmas Day. MGM will release the film States-side whilst Warner Bros. Pictures is handling international in the weeks after.
