Trailer: BBC & Netflix’s “The Serpent”

The first trailer is out for the upcoming BBC and Netflix thriller series “The Serpent” starring Tahar Rahim (“A Prophet”), Jenna Coleman (“Victoria,” “Doctor Who”), Billy Howle (“On Chesil Beach,” “Outlaw King”), Ellie Bamber (“Nocturnal Animals,” “Les Miserables”) and Tim McInnery (“Blackadder,” “Spooks”).

The eight-part series is based on the true story of Charles Sobhraj, a man believed to be responsible for the deaths of up to twenty young Western travellers in the mid-1970s.

Coleman plays his girlfriend and accomplice Marie-Andree Leclerc with the pair carrying out a crime spree across Thailand, Nepal, and India.

Howle plays a junior diplomat in Bangkok who unwittingly walks into Sobhraj’s web of crime, and sets off to bring the killer to justice. The series premieres New Year’s Day on BBC One, and at a later time on Netflix in the United States.
