The first trailer has arrived for Oscar winning documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney’s new two-part documentary feature “Agents of Chaos” which will air over two nights on HBO and HBO Max on September 23rd & 24th.
The feature will pull back the curtain on Russian collusion in the 2016 U.S. elections and is reportedly the product of years of reporting on the topic.
It is said to feature footage from inside the Russian troll farms where politically incendiary social media posts and viral videos are created and disseminated in a war of misinformation exploiting an already deeply polarized electorate in an effort to weaken U.S. democratic institutions.
The film boasts a range of interviews with key players including Mueller Investigation lead prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe, former CIA director John Brennan, Trump campaign advisor Carter Page, NSC senior director Celeste Wallander, and cyber conflict researcher Camille Francois.
Gibney broke out with 2005’s “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room” and 2007’s “Taxi to the Dark Side”. Other notable efforts include the Catholic Church abuse doco “Mea Maxima Culpa,” the Scientology expose “Going Clear,” the WikiLeaks doco “We Steal Secrets,” the sport doping scandal work “The Armstrong Lie,” and the Golden Bear-winning Stuxnet doco “Zero Days”.
Javier Alberto Botero co-directed the film with Gibney, while former “60 Minutes” investigative journalist Lowell Bergman (played by Al Pacino in “The Insider”) executive produces.
