“Candyman” star Tony Todd has reportedly been set to reprise his role as coroner William Bludworth in the upcoming sixth “Final Destination” film at New Line Cinema.
Bloody Disgusting broke the news of the casting which would be Todd’s fourth appearance in the series following the original 2000 film, its 2003 sequel, and the 2011 fifth movie.
Bludworth was introduced as the owner of Bludworth Funeral Homes and explained the rules of death to Alex (Devon Sawa). The new film is said to follow a group of first responders which makes the appearance of the coroner character fitting.
The new film will be helmed by duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein (“Freaks”) from a screenplay written by Lori Evans Taylor and Guy Busick (“Ready or Not”).
Jon Watts, Dianne McGunigle, Craig Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor produce. Though a sixth installment, the project is expected to be a re-imagining of the franchise.
Each of the films follows a small group of people who manage to narrowly avoid death after someone has a vision of them all perishing. However, death won’t let them get away, leading to each of them getting killed off in a series of accidents.
The five prior films have earned a combined worldwide gross of over $660 million. Todd’s voice will be heard next month as the character Venom in the upcoming PS5 exclusive game “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2”.
