Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s “Tomb Raider” TV series for Amazon Prime Video is reportedly eyeing a late July/early August filming start in London reports Geek Vibes Nation
In January 2023 came the news that celebrated British scribe and Emmy winner Waller-Bridge was attached to write scripts and executive produce the series for the streamer as part of her overall multi-million dollar deal at Amazon.
The show would follow the character of archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft. Little was heard after that beyond casting with former “Game of Thrones” alum Sophie Turner emerging as the top choice to play Croft.
Then in April this year, the British tabloids indicated that the project was effectively dead with the series having gone through “two writers rooms and tens of millions of dollars in development costs”.
A few weeks later it appeared the cancellation rumors were premature, while a lot of buzz swirled about a photo of Turner showing off some killer abs while on holiday.
As such, Amazon has yet to officially offer any comment on the series in terms of casting or production so consider this rumor for now.
The talk comes on the 24th anniversary of the 2001 film starring Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig and Iain Glen, a film with one of the most 1990s-style teaser trailers ever created (see below).
