“Tomb Raider” Series Filming Delayed?

Amazon MGM Studios’ long-gestating live-action “Tomb Raider” series appears to have hit another setback.

A listing for the series on Production Weekly (via SHH has indicated that shooting on the series has been pushed back to the first quarter of 2026. At last report back in June, shooting was reportedly targeting a start in the UK in August/September.

Word of the series first broke in January 2023 when celebrated British scribe and Emmy winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge was attached to write scripts and executive produce the series.

In April this year, reports spread like wildfire that the project had been cancelled after “two writers’ rooms and tens of millions of dollars in development costs” yielded nothing.

Those reports were shot down shortly after by the show’s production companies. Rumours have continued to swirl about writers on the series coming and going with debate over the show’s tone.

Scoops collected on Reddit in recent months have all suggested the series will involve Lara Croft as an already established adventurer and archaeologist, have a 1990s vibe and is aiming for a tone akin to 1999’s “The Mummy”.
