Back in May came the announcement of Embracer Group’s plan to acquire a large part of Square Enix’s western development arm, including developers Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal and the game franchises they developed titles for.
The $300 million deal has now been closed and the transfer of the control of various properties has been completed according to VGC. In a statement this week, Crystal Dynamics revealed they have taken full ownership and control of the “Tomb Raider” and “Legacy of Kain” game franchises. Fellow developer Eidos Montreal has also reportedly taken control of the “Deus Ex” and “Thief” franchises.
Embracer previously indicated plans are to release sequels, remakes, remasters, spin-offs and more for those aforementioned IPs with a new “Tomb Raider” game built in Unreal Engine 5 already in development at Crystal Dynamics.
