After having played Peter Parker six times on film, 27-year-old English actor Tom Holland admits a part of him would be happy to step away from the Spider-Man role.
Holland has been on screen in the role since “Captain America: Civil War” back in 2016 through to “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in 2021.
Recently came the news a fourth “Spider-Man” movie is still in the works with Holland admitting to having a few development meetings about the film with producer Amy Pascal, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige and some other executives.
Speaking with THR today, the actor explained what’s going on and his hesitation about returning to the role:
“It’s a collaborative process. The first few meetings were about, ‘Why would we do this again?’ And I think we found the reason why. I’m really, really happy with where we’re at in terms of the creative.
But I’m also a little apprehensive about it. There’s a bit of a stigma about the fourth one in all franchises. I feel like we hit a home run with our first franchise, and there’s a part of me that wants to walk away with my head held high and pass the baton to the next lucky kid that gets to bring this character to life.”
With development on the film stalled with the strike, Holland is also dealing with the bad reviews for his new series “The Crowded Room”on Apple TV+. The series sits at just 32% on Rotten Tomatoes, one of the worst scores for a major TV drama series, but that’s better than the initial batch of reviews which saw the show’s score in the teens. Of the reviews, he says:
“It was a kick in the teeth. Rolling over, looking up the reviews, and then all of a sudden I was like, ‘Wow. That’s a bad review.’ Sometimes there’s a redeeming quality in there. There was nothing… There will be good ones. There will be. I try to have a healthy outlook on all that sort of stuff and respect everyone’s opinion.”
Recently the actor indicated he’s taking a year long break from acting, though subsequently revealed he’s actually already eight months into that break which began after he wrapped “The Crowded Room,” thus he could be back to work by this Fall.
