“Spider-Man” star Tom Holland is very busy this year. He’s spent much of the first half shooting Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” and then is essentially jumping directly to filming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” throughout the rest of this year.
Both films, releasing next Summer and just a few weeks apart, will actually mark his first time back on the big screen since 2022’s “Uncharted”. Holland filmed Apple TV+ series “The Crowded Room” which released in 2023, but then essentially took a year break from acting bar a turn on the stage in “Romeo & Juliet”.
Speaking with GQ, he indicates that he’s got more lined up for next year, but then plans more time off:
I feel really blessed to be at a point in my career where I can take time off, reset, and come back ready to go, You can’t be in every movie, and you can’t do your best work when you’re burnt out. What I’ve learnt is that it’s important to set boundaries – to be mindful about overworking. I’ve got a slightly busy year next year, and then I’ll probably take a bit more time off in 2027. We’ll see.”
Holland’s name came up recently as one candidate that Amazon MGM is reportedly interested in for playing the new James Bond now that the studio has creative control of that franchise. Amy Pascal, who produces the “Spider-Man” films, is a key producer on the 007 franchise.
Holland also spoke with TV host/celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and was asked if he would “love the opportunity” to play the Bond role. He says:
“Listen, there’s speculation at the moment. We’ll keep it to a minimum for now. We’ll get there one day… I mean every young British actor, it’s the pinnacle of working in our industry. I already consider myself to be the luckiest kid alive you know, I could not have dreamed to have the career that I have.”
He also tells GQ one kind of film he’d love to do is a “straight-up comedy”, a film which is all about “how do we make people laugh as much as possible” as opposed to some emotional story.
“The Odyssey” opens in cinemas July 17th 2026 followed by “Spider-Man: No Way Home” on July 31st 2026.
