Vertical Entertainment has snatched up the North American distribution rights to “Chronicle” and “Fantastic Four” director Josh Trank’s biographical crime drama film “Fonzo” starring Tom Hardy as Al Capone.
The company has retitled it “Capone” and the MPAA has given it an R-rating for “strong/bloody violence, pervasive language and some sexuality.”
In development since 2016, Trank has announced it will head directly to Digital on May 12th as Vertical Entertainment often does simultaneous limited theatrical and VOD runs. Trank also says he hopes there will be a theatrical release of some kind later this year.
In the film, Capone (Tom Hardy) is now 47 years old and has spent nearly a decade of imprisonment,. As dementia rots his mind, his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life.
Linda Cardellini, Matt Dillon, Kyle MacLachlan, Kathrine Narducci, Jack Lowden and Noel Fisher co-star.
