Tom Cruise Has No Plans To Retire

Paramount Pictures

Tom Cruise says he has no plans to retire from filmmaking, and could very well be making movies into his 80s.

Speaking with The Sydney Morning Herald whilst out promoting the new “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” the currently 61-year-old Cruise continues to do his own extreme stunts for movies.

That won’t stop with “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two”, which he has already shot plenty of crazy action for ahead of its planned release next June.

Speaking as to why he’ll continue doing said action, he compares himself to a certain other action star currently in cinemas:

“Harrison Ford is a legend. I hope to be still going. I’ve got 20 years to catch up with him. I hope to keep making Mission: Impossible films until I’m his age.”

Cruise first played IMF agent Ethan Hunt 27 years ago in Brian DePalma’s “Mission: Impossible”.

Cruise also spoke about the question that’s occupying many film fans this month – which film do I see first, “Barbie” or “Oppenheimer”?

“I want to see both Barbie and Oppenheimer. I’ll see them opening weekend. Friday, I’ll see Oppenheimer first and then Barbie on Saturday … I grew up seeing movies on the big screen. That’s how I make them, and I like that experience; it’s immersive, and to have that as a community and an industry, it’s important.”

“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” is on track to open bigger than any of the previous films, with the instalment eyeing a $90 million extended weekend opening from Wednesday to Sunday. Check out a newly released featurette about the film’s massive train stunt.
