Tobey Maguire would be all up for reprising his Peter Parker role again in the wake of his return to the role in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in 2021.
Maguire starred in the Sam Raimi-directed original trilogy that ran from 2002-2007 and had always intended to return for a fourth film. Creative differences between Raimi and Sony Pictures, however, led to that falling apart.
Ultimately Andrew Garfield took over the role in “The Amazing Spider-Man” reboot in 2012. Of course, both Maguire and Garfield returned to their roles alongside current Spider-Man star Tom Holland for ‘No Way Home’.
Marvel.com has today posted an interview with Maguire that was done for the upcoming behind-the-scenes coffee table book: “Spider-Man No Way Home: The Official Movie Special”. Of course, the interviewer had to ask about his return, to which Maguire says:
“When they called initially, I was like, finally! I got the call and was immediately open about coming to do this. Not without nerves – you know, ‘What will this look like and what will the experience be?’ But to get to show up with beautiful, talented, creative people and play together? It’s just like, ‘Yes!’ It’s fun and exciting.”
He goes on to say he would definitely be down for returning if asked:
“I love these films and I love all of the different series. If these guys called me and said, ‘Would you show up tonight to hang out and goof around?’ or ‘Would you show up to do this movie or read a scene or do a Spider-Man thing?’ it would be a ‘yes!’ Because why wouldn’t I want to do that?”
Sony has yet to announce any concrete plans for what it’s doing with the “Spider-Man” franchise for the moment – ‘Home’ delivering a solid endpoint at which they could reboot again if they choose to, though Holland is expected to return.
“Spider-Man No Way Home: The Official Movie Special” cook is now available for pre-order and will be released on February 28th. Maguire can currently be seen in “Babylon”.
