Though the animated feature “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” is still a week away from releasing, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies are reportedly developing both a sequel and a two-season series spin-off.
Variety broke the news saying Paramount and Nickelodeon are very bullish about the new film and so have come up with this plan. Jeff Rowe, who directed and co-wrote the first film, will return to direct the sequel.
The 2D animated series, to be titled “Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” will serve as a ‘bridge’ between the films and will premiere on the Paramount+ service.
Actors Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu and Brady Noon – who voice the four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the film – will return for the series. There’s already a synopsis for the series too:
“The Turtles will be challenged like never before as Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey each go it alone for the first time. Faced with new threats and teaming up with old allies, the Turtles will discover who they really are when they don’t have their brothers at their sides.”
Paramount and Nickelodeon chief Brian Robbins made rebooting the franchise a top priority in recent years and says in a statement:
“We are excited to grow TMNT’s legacy in partnership with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg at Point Grey, and Jeff Rowe, who are innovating the franchise with their singular brand of humor and elevated storytelling for audiences everywhere, across virtually every platform.”
Point Grey Pictures will produce both the sequel and series while Chris Yost (“The Mandalorian”) and Alan Wan (“Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”) will be serving as executive producers and showrunners.
