HBO Max and Cartoon Network have announced a straight-to-series order for the new animated series “Batman: Caped Crusader”.
The project is set to be executive produced by three top tier talents – filmmakers J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves, along with original 1990s “Batman: The Animated Series” co-developer Bruce Timm.
Since “Batman: The Animated Series” went off the air, numerous “Batman” shows and movies have cropped up – most of which have either skewed younger or often lacked the magic that made the original run such an iconic classic.
‘Caped Crusader’ appears to be a step back to the original formula with Abrams, Reeves, and Timm saying in a joint statement: “The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters.”
Warner Bros. Animation, Bad Robot Productions, and 6th & Idaho will produce the series. Reeves recently finished filming the Robert Pattinson-led “The Batman” film and has a live-action spin-off prequel series in development for HBO Max.
“Batman: Caped Crusader” does not have an announced premiere date yet.
