Tim Blake Nelson (“Watchmen,” “Hail Caesar”) has joined the cast of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” at Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures.
The sprawling sci-fi epic adapts the back half of Frank Herbert’s classic 1965 novel and wrapped filming in mid-December. Specifics of Nelson’s character are under wraps so it’s not clear whom he will be playing – though all the major roles have been cast so it’s likely a minor part.
The new run sees Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) and Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) teaming with the desert-dwelling Fremen to liberate the planet of Arrakis from the vicious House Harkonnen. Zendaya, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Stellan Skarsgard, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem all reprise their roles from the first film.
They are joined by Austin Butler as the lethal Feyd-Rautha, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, and Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV.
“Dune: Part Two” will be released on November 3rd and follows on from the first, which opened simultaneously in domestic theaters and on HBO Max on October 22nd 2021. It grossed $400.6 million at the worldwide box office and earned ten Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.
Villeneuve is directing from a script he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts. Mary Parent, Villeneuve, Cale Boyter, Tanya Lapointe and Patrick McCormick are producing. Nelson most recently voiced Black Rabbit in “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” film which was released last month.
