Much talked about Netflix documentary series “Tiger King” has become one of Netflix’s biggest-ever original shows according to ratings agency Nielsen.
The series reportedly reached a U.S. TV audience of 34.3 million unique viewers within the first ten days of its release in late March. That figure comes in between those for the second season of “Stranger Things” (31.2M) and the third (36.3M) over their first ten days each.
The seven-episode limited series, which weaves a bizarre tale of conflict and crime set in the world of big-cat breeders and private zoos, was also the No. 1 most-tweeted TV show tracked by Nielsen over late March with 1.8 million total organic (nonpaid) interactions on Twitter.
Netflix has not issued viewing numbers for “Tiger King” to date. Nielsen’s figures are extrapolated estimates that measure only programming watched on connected TVs – so doesn’t include mobile devices, laptops or desktop watching. It also only measures U.S. viewership.
