Comedian Tig Notaro is having a moment of late thanks to her scene-stealing role in “Army of the Dead”.
In recent years she’s also been one of the highlights of Paramount+ series “Star Trek: Discovery,” serving in a recurring capacity as engineer Jett Reno who seems to boast a personality very much like her own.
The series is executive produced by Alex Kurtzman with the role created specifically for Notaro – the pair have known each other since the 1990s. To date, she’s appeared in ten episodes – five in the second season and five in the third.
Speaking with Metro Weekly, she reveals she’s surprised that the gig has continued and has assurances she’ll be around until the end:
“I really thought I’d end up just going in for an episode or two. But this turned into something. Alex [Kurtzman] said, ‘We’re going to use you as much as we can get you.’ I hear from people all the time like, ‘Oh, they don’t use you enough,’ or ‘Why don’t they use you more?’ And it’s like, I have a stand-up career and a million other things I’m doing. I try to do as much as I can on Star Trek, but I just don’t have the time… I’ve been told by Alex that they’re not ever going to kill me.”
The show is currently on the tail-end of production of its fourth season in Toronto with the character coming back for multiple episodes. Notaro is back in Los Angeles and confirmed last week she had wrapped her work on the fourth season.
