HBO’s fantasy drama “Game of Thrones” has topped a list of the greatest TV shows of the 21st century in a new fan poll conducted by UK outlet Digital Spy.
Almost 3,000 cast their votes in the poll which skewed more towards UK fare though several American productions made it onto the list which includes a mix of drama, comedy, sci-fi and reality series.
‘Thrones’ was a cultural phenomenon which won multiple awards and was critically acclaimed for much of its run before stumbling in its final seasons and closing out with a poorly received final run.
Even so, this vote is for the series as a whole. The top ten as voted on by readers were:
1. Game of Thrones
2. Stranger Things
3. Doctor Who
4. Sherlock
5. Breaking Bad
6. The Great British Bake Off
7. Killing Eve
8. Gavin & Stacey
9. Line of Duty
10. Chernobyl
Almost every title on this list has been award winners in their respective categories, though intriguingly most have been accused of poor seasons or episodes within their otherwise well regarded runs.
