Pilou Asbæk (“Game of Thrones,” “Borgen,” “Ghost in the Shell”) has scored the pivotal antagonist role in the new adaptation of Stephen King’s second novel “Salem’s Lot” at New Line Cinema.

The story sees author Ben Mears (Lewis Pullman) return to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book. He soon discovers the place is being preyed upon by a bloodthirsty vampire.

Asbæk takes on the role of Richard Straker, the vampire’s familiar who prepares for the arrival of his master and does plenty of dirty work.

The character serves as the antagonist for much of the story and was famously played by James Mason in the Tobe Hooper-directed 1970s mini-series.

Alfre Woodard, Makenzie Leigh, Bill Camp and Spencer Treat Clark also star in the feature which is currently in production in Boston. Gary Dauberman pens and directs the project.

Asbæk is segueing into filming this off a role in James Wan’s “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”. Wan also produces the new “Salem’s Lot” which is currently targeting a September 9th 2022 release.
