Between “Game of Thrones,” “House of the Dragon” and “Nightflyers,” author George R.R. Martin has seen multiple works of his make it to the small screen. Soon though, he’ll be making the jump to cinemas.

Martin has offered an update on “In the Lost Lands,” a film adaptation of his 1982 fantasy short story that has Milla Jovovich in the lead role and is directed by Paul W. S. Anderson (“Event Horizon,” “Mortal Kombat”).

Jovovich stars in ‘Lost Lands’ as Gray Alys, a dangerous and feared sorceress hired by a desperate queen. Alys is sent to the ghostly wilderness known as the Lost Lands and with her guide, the drifter Boyce (Dave Bautista), they must outwit and outfight man and demon.

The project was first announced back in 2015 but didn’t really get moving until two years ago. In a posting on his website, Martin says filming wrapped in Poland a few weeks ago with a lot of post-production still ahead of it. The plan is to release it in cinemas in 2024.

Constantin Werner (“Pagan Queen”) penned the script while Jeremy Bolt and Jonathan Meisner. Martin also says there are plans to do a more expansive tie-in graphic novel that expands on his 6,000-word short story.

Should the film be a success, the author says he has potentially more stories following the adventures of Gray Alys planned. Jovovich and Anderson, who are married, previously worked together on four of the “Resident Evil” films and the “Monster Hunter” film adaptation.
