Third “SpongeBob” Film Begins Production

Third Spongebob Film Begins Production

A new listing on Production Weekly (via Pursue News) indicates that Paramount Animation is kicking off production on “The Spongebob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge” this week.

The third feature film starring the iconic character, and the first of the three to be fully CG animated for the underwater scenes – though there will also be hybrid live-action sequences with the characters in the real world. The story is rumored to be a prequel taking place prior to events of the Nickelodeon TV series and previous movies.

Mikros Image animation (“Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie”) will reportedly handle the animation on the film which Tim Hill is directing. Back in December it was reported cinematographer Larry Fong (“Batman v Superman”) was onboard, while Hans Zimmer is scoring.

The film is slated to open in cinemas July 2020.
