Third “Spider-Verse” Team Make Silence Pact

Sony Pictures Animation

Nine months in and Sony and Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” remains one of the best films of the year. Both a critical and commercial success, the first of two sequels wrapped up on a cliffhanger leaving many wanting more.

When we’ll get it is the big question. Sony had originally earmarked a March 2024, but claims in a report shortly after release indicated it would not be possible to release ‘Beyond’ as scheduled because it was nowhere near that level of completion.

Shortly after, writer/producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller issued a statement saying they would “take the time necessary” to complete the film to their standards. Sony then shortly removed the film from the release schedule as the actor’s strikes prevented the voice cast from recording their lines on schedule.

Now, Games Radar spoke with Across the Spider-Verse’s composer Daniel Pemberton who says with any score he wants to do, he wants to surprise people so they don’t know what they’re getting.

This means going to make the next film “even more f—- complicated”. So how are they all going on that next film? Turns out they’ve made a pact to be ‘radio silent’ about what’s to come:

“Don’t talk about it [laughs]. Everyone in this film, there’s a sort of pact, no one will talk about the next film because we’re all still in recovery from the second one.”

He adds that the production team takes “multiple different approaches on pretty much every scene in the movie” and as a result, he wrote a huge amount of music that “just ends up in the bin”.

This fits in with that report which claimed Lord, Miller and the crew retooled many scenes multiple times throughout production, and that everyone was so busy getting that second film finished that the third is still a good while off.

Meanwhile, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse – Live in Concert” is on tour around the US before going to the UK in October, and both released films are on digital platforms everywhere.
