Third “Spider-Verse” Delayed Three Weeks

Sony Pictures

Sony and Marvel’s third Spider-Verse animated feature, “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,” is set to arrive a little later than expected.

The film, which was set for a June 4th 2027 release, is now set to swing into cinemas on June 25th 2027.

The shift is to take advantage of school holidays with kids off for Summer break in the U.S., while internationally it also lines up with holiday periods better.

The franchise has been a critical crown jewel not just for Marvel but for the studio overall. Both titles have drawn some of the best reviews ever for comic book movies, the first one also winning an Oscar and the second one proving a major $691 million global hit.

In the time since, the film’s high-energy animation style has been highly influential on other movies and TV series.

It has also easily eclipsed the failed SPUMC (Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters) initiative, which resulted in the profitable “Venom” films along with duds like “Kraven the Hunter,” “Madame Web” and “Morbius”. Earlier this week, “Eddington” and “Hereditary” director Ari Aster revealed he was offered (and turned down) “Morbius” at one time.

“Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” will arrive four years after the cliffhanger ending of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”. Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson direct from a script by franchise runners Phil Lord and Chris Miller along with David Callaham.
