Third “Sonic” To Film Scenes Without Actors

Despite the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, production on “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is set to begin next month, according to Screen Daily in a new report about the U.K. filming industry.

Sources for the trade indicate the project will get through the filming it needs to that doesn’t require the use of SAG-AFTRA actors – such as shots involving backgrounds for just the CG animated creatures.

Once the Screen Actors Guild comes to an agreement with the AMPTP and actors can work again, then production will continue with actors in place.

Construction on sets for the film has already been spotted in Farnham in Surrey, England according to MaxBlizz but no actors or filming equipment has been seen beyond some Sonic, Tails and Knuckles stand-ins for reference.

Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington returned to write the screenplay whilst Jeff Fowler will return as the director.

Actors like James Marsden, Jim Carrey, and Tika Sumpter are expected back post-strike – as is Ben Schwartz as the voice of the titular hedgehog.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is still on track for a December 20th 2024 release.
