The Disney+ service has just premiered the second season finale of “The Mandalorian” and while there are major events that happen in the episode’s narrative we won’t go into, there was also something else – separate but newsworthy.
The news was revealed via a post-credits stinger, one that’s relatively standalone from the rest of the episode and one that ties back into an earlier work whilst also revealing a new one.
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “THE MANDALORIAN” SECOND SEASON FINALE
The stinger in question serves as something of an epilogue to “Return of the Jedi” and sees Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) return to Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine where he Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) get revenge on a familiar face.
After that scene though comes the words “The Book of Boba Fett. Coming December 2021”.
This confirms speculation the streaming service is working on a series focused on the character, though it’s unclear if it’s a one-off special, a limited or ongoing spin-onff series, or even technically the third season of “The Mandalorian” which is due at the same time.
Whatever it is, it was notably absent from last week’s Disney investor Day presentation which means this has been in the works for a while and deliberately kept secret.
If its own show, it would mark the third spin-off from “The Mandalorian” on the way alongside the Ahsoka Tano series and the mostly unknown “Rangers of the New Republic”.
Feel free to discuss the reveal and the episode in the comments below but beware of spoilers as someone will no doubt be spreading them.
