Around the same time as the news of the indefinite delay of “Tenet” came word of another delay, that of “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It”.
The project marks the third film in the main series of the horror franchise and the first not to have James Wan directing. Instead, Michael Chaves is taking over as helmer on the film which will see the return of Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson’s characters.
Originally the movie was going to arrive in cinemas this September, but now it has been pushed back a full nine months and will arrive June 2021. Chaves has today taken to social media to let fans of the franchise know about the change and explains why we haven’t seen a trailer for the film as yet:
“Our theatrical release has been pushed back to the hopefully bright, but distant future of June 4th 2021… I know – that date seems very far away.
I’m sure this brings some angst and frustration – even more than what everyone must be already feeling. I have my own personal list of movies, books, and video games that I’m counting down. Knowing that stuff is coming gives me a sense of stability in a very unstable world.
I do hear you guys. When you ask for a trailer – I’m not personally holding it on my computer waiting to release it. It’s all part of a marketing campaign planned by the absolutely brilliant team at WB.”
The new film starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy which takes the Warrens beyond anything they’d ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.
With the exception of 2015, every year since 2013 has seen at least one “The Conjuring” film franchise release whether it be a full “Conjuring” movie, an “Annabelle” film, “The Nun,” or “The Curse of La Llorona”. The delay now changes that.
