Thewlis Clarifies His “Avatar” Involvement

“Harry Potter” and “Wonder Woman” actor David Thewlis has clarified some recent comments about the “Avatar” sequels following his discussion of filming scenes for them.

It turns out the original publication that shared those comments got something wrong – Thewlis isn’t in James Cameron’s second “Avatar”. Rather he doesn’t show up until the third and he will be back for more after that.

Thewlis previously indicated that Cameron has filmed the second, third and part of the fourth film in this first block. The majority remainder of the fourth film and the fifth film will be done in a separate block later – mostly likely after the first of the sequels have come out. This week the actor explained to Collider just what films he will be involved in:

“Nothing could be more different than Avatar. It completely doesn’t resemble anything that I’ve ever done. I should be clear, by the way, cause I know that a magazine in Britain has got me in Avatar 2, but I’m not in Avatar 2. I’m going to be in Avatar 3, which was shot at the same time as Avatar 2, and the plan is that I will be in Avatar 4 and 5, as well. I just wanted to clear that up because somebody got that wrong recently.”

Thewlis is playing a Na’vi in the film and previously described Cameron as “an absolute pleasure” to work with and “something of a genius.” The Thewlis-free “Avatar 2” arrives December next year.
