Universal Pictures has reportedly acquired the family comedy package “Dance Parents” with both Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum on board to produce.
The project will reportedly be developed as a starring vehicle for both actors, while Jonathan Levine (“Long Shot”) is attached to direct and produce as well.
Meghan Malloy (“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”) is attached to write the script for the film, which is still in the early development phase, but enough along that Universal fended off a number of studios and streamers to land it.
Story specifics are unknown, but it is rumoured to be set in the world of young competitive dancers and their overly-passionate parents. Theron and Tatum previously danced onscreen during the 2013 Oscars ceremony.
Beth Kono, AJ Dix, Matt Maher, Drue Robertson, Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan, Eve Brigham, Garret Levitz and Gillian Bohrer would also produce.
Tatum was most recently seen in “Blink Twice” and will shortly be seen in “Roofman” opening in October, while Theron recently filmed the Netflix thriller “Apex” alongside Taron Egerton.
