HBO Max is developing a TV series adaptation of Grady Hendrix’s best-selling horror novel “The Final Girl Support Group”.
Actress/producer Charlize Theron’s Denver & Delilah Films and “IT” filmmakers Barbara and Andy Muschietti’s Double Dream are backing the project as well as Aperture Entertainment.
The story centers on a Los Angeles–based therapeutic support group for six ‘final girls’ – survivors of mass-murderer rampages whose experiences inspired the slasher franchises that saturated horror cinema in the 1980s and 1990s, earning them minor celebrity.
Andy Muschietti is set to direct the pilot while Theron, Hendrix, AJ Dix, Beth Kono, Andrew Haas, Adam Goldworm, Irene Yeung and both Muschiettis will executive produce.
