Charlize Theron will executive produce an HBO Max dramedy TV series adaptation of the DC Comics young adult graphic novel “You Brought Me The Ocean” by Alex Sanchez and Jul Maroh. That pair also penned the original comic which the acclaimed French film “Blue Is The Warmest Color” is based on.
The 2020 comic serves as something of an origin story of Aqualad. It follows Jake Hyde, a closeted teenager dealing with his sexuality as well as his emerging superpowers. He can’t swim but moves to a college on the coast and finds himself attracted to its swim team captain Kenny Liu.
He also has other secrets, including the strange blue markings on his skin that glow when in contact with water. What power will he find when he dives headfirst into the waves?
Theron is executive producing alongside AJ Dix, Beth Kono and Andrew Haas for Warner Bros. Television.
