The writer’s strike is now completely, officially over.
This afternoon, the Writer’s Guild of America membership ratified its contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers by an overwhelming majority vote of 99%.
Some 8,525 valid votes were cast by members of the 11,000-strong Writers Guild of America West and Writers Guild of America East after a week of voting.
The ratification scored 8,435 ‘yes’ votes and just 90 ‘no’ votes – marking a final end to the strike which lasted for nearly five months.
The new deal runs from September 25th 2023 to May 31st 2026 and has made strides in terms of A.I. limitation, residuals, writer’s room staffing, and data transparency, as well as pay hikes.
The ratification comes two weeks after the two sides struck a tentative agreement on September 24th. Writers have already returned to work after the strike order was lifted late last month.
