Netflix has premiered the first trailer for the third season of its big-budget fantasy drama “The Witcher” based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski.
In addition, the streamer has announced the new season’s release strategy, which will see the eight-episode season split into two. The first five episodes will arrive on June 29th, with the remaining three episodes to arrive four weeks later on July 27th.
The third season was shot between April and September last year, with filming taking place in Slovenia, Croatia, Morocco, parts of the Sahara, Wales, Surrey and Longcross Studios in England.
Series creator and showrunner Lauren Hissrich has previously indicated the new season is primarily an adaptation of “Time of Contempt,” one of the more action-heavy entries into Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel series.
She adds it’s also the “closest thing that we’ve done as a one-to-one adaptation of the books”. The clip offers another glimpse of the Wild Hunt, whilst other scenes are seemingly set in a maze.
The new run marks Henry Cavill’s final outing in the role of Geralt of Rivia, with Liam Hemsworth taking over the part for the show’s fourth season.
Freya Allan, Anya Chalotra and Joey Batey co-star in the series, with the new episodes following in the wake of the poorly received prequel spin-off mini-series “The Witcher: Blood Origin”.
