“The Winchesters” Is Now Truly Dead

The CW

The “Supernatural” franchise is now well and truly over it seems.

The CW’s prequel spin-off series “The Winchesters” has not been able to score a second season pickup anywhere, despite Warner Bros. Television’s efforts to set it up with another network or streamer.

The series shifted the focus to the 1970s and focused on the blossoming romance between a young Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly) and John Winchester (Drake Rodger) – parents of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles).

The cancellation news was revealed three weeks ago, arriving two months after the show wrapped its thirteen-episode single season.

The cancellation wasn’t a surprise as the new owners of The CW has been shedding scripted series left and right, whilst executive producers Jensen and Danneel Ackles recently moved shop to Amazon.

According to Deadline, all possible avenues for a reprieve have been exhausted and the search is over – even with a strong #SaveTheWinchesters fan campaign going on.

The news comes as several other The CW shows remain in limbo including “All American: Homecoming,” “Gotham Knights” and most notably “Superman & Lois”.
