Amazon’s big-budget TV series adaptation of Robert Jordan’s fantasy book series “The Wheel of Time” has kicked off production on its second season just two months after a renewal order was handed out.
The news comes as a little bit of a surprise as the series has yet to release any real footage or publicity materials from the first season aside from a few logos and cryptic concept teasers.
The show hasn’t even set a premiere date as yet, though we’re expected to finally get something later this week when more details about the series are expected to arrive as part of Amazon Prime and IMDB TV’s joint San Diego Comic-Con@Home panel.
“World on Fire” director Thomas Napper will be helming the second season premiere.
The series is set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists, but only women can use it. The story follows Moiraine (Pike), a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization called the ‘Aes Sedai’ as she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women.
Moiraine believes one of them might be the reincarnation of an incredibly powerful individual, whom prophecies say will either save humanity or destroy it. The series draws on numerous elements of European and Asian culture and philosophy.
Daniel Henney, Alvaro Morte, Sophie Okonedo, Kae Alexander, Madeleine Madden, Zoe Robins, Michael McElhatton, Barney Harris, and Marcus Rutherford star.
