It’s official, 20th Century Studios is releasing a sequel to “The Simpsons Movie” with the title set to arrive July 23rd 2027.
That has it arriving twenty years after the original “The Simpsons Movie” debuted in cinemas in 2007.
Directed by David Silverman, that film was a massive box office hit and brought in approximately $536.4 million worldwide.
Talk of a potential sequel has floated around for years but never seemed to make much progress until recently.
No further details about the project are available at this time. The poster is thought to be a homage to the original film’s teaser poster as well where a donut formed the ‘O’ in the ‘movie’ part of the title.
The original film received positive reviews from both fans and critics and came at a time when “The Simpsons,” though still going strong, had begun to go on the wane culturally after being such a phenomenon in its first 12-15 years on the air.
These days the show still has a loyal audience but many haven’t tuned in for years, a film would potentially bring out old fans though.
