Production is officially underway on the Jon Bernthal-led “The Punisher” ‘Special Presentation’ from Marvel Studios.
The one-off (ala “Werewolf by Night”) standalone special for the Disney+ service was announced in February this year with Bernthal co-writing the work with filmmaker Reinaldo Marcus Green (“We Own This City”).
Filming is expected to run for the next several weeks in New York City with the first set photos having gone up over at Just Jared.
The special will be set after the events of the first season of “Daredevil: Born Again” with Bernthal’s Frank Castle on the run following Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante mandate going into effect.
Bernthal reprises the role in the second season of “Daredevil: Born Again” which wrapped a week ago, and after filming this special he will again play the role later this year as part of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” which begins its shoot in Glasgow, Scotland on August 1st.
Story details about the special remain under wraps, beyond the antagonist expected to be female crime boss Isabella ‘Ma’ Gnucci from the comics. The actress playing the mobster remains under wraps.
“Daredevil: Born Again” Season 2, “The Punisher” special and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” are all expected to arrive in 2026.
