Usually the end of August/early September is known for being fairly dead at the box-office, that’s not the case this year it would seem.
Already box-office projections have indicated that “The Equalizer 3” will rack up $25-32 million for the three-day and up to nearly $40 million for the four-day Labor Day holiday weekend when it opens on September 1st.
Now, long forecast projections are in for the following weekend with the sequel to 2018’s “The Conjuring” spin-off “The Nun” looking set for a very robust debut.
According to Box-Office Pro, the film is tracking for a three day debut of at least $30 million and anywhere up to $45 million. It’s still early though, with a lot of the last-minute marketing still to come that could push those estimates higher.
The first “The Nun” opened to $53.8 million in the same post-Labor Day weekend release slot which has become an in-demand slot for horror movies following the gargantuan success of the “IT” movies.
“The Nun” also ended up being the highest grossing movie in “The Conjuring” franchise with $365.5 million box-office worldwide. Michael Chaves (“The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It”) helms the sequel.
