“The Night Agent” Scores S2 Renewal

Netflix

Just days after its premiere last Thursday, Netflix has ordered a second season of its new espionage thriller series “The Night Agent”.

“The Shield” creator Shawn Ryan created the show based on the novel by Matthew Quirk. The series debuted on March 23rd and pulled in 168.7 million hours viewed in its first few days on the streamer.

Along with appearing in the Top 10 in 93 countries, those numbers make it the third-best premiere week of viewing for the first season of any Netflix original.

The second season is scheduled to arrive in 2024 and will consist of another lot of ten episodes. Ryan said in a statement today:

“The last week has been a whirlwind as we’ve finally been able to share The Night Agent with the world. To see the tremendous reaction to the show has been a great joy and is a credit to our cast, our writers, our directors, our crew and our partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix. We couldn’t be any prouder or more excited to get cracking on season two to share the further adventures of Night Action with our newfound fans.”

In “The Night Agent,” Gabriel Basso stars as a low-level FBI Agent who works in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rings.

One night it does, propelling him into a fast-moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads all the way to the Oval Office.

Hong Chau, Luciane Buchanan, Sarah Desjardins, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Eve Harlow, Enrique Murciano, Phoenix Raei and D.B. Woodside co-star in the series which hails from Sony Pictures Television.

Ryan is still awaiting word on the future of his CBS procedural series “SWAT” with CBS and Sony trying to work out the economics to make a new run work.
