“The Naked Gun” Coming To 4K UHD Disc

Paramount Pictures

Paramount Home Entertainment have announced that David Zucker’s iconic 1988 comedy classic “The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!” is coming to 4K UHD disc on November 28th.

The Leslie Nielsen-led film is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year and will be made available in a limited edition SteelBook. The release only encompasses the first film of the trio produced.

Nielsen stars as “granite-jawed, rock-brained cop Frank Drebin-bumbling across a mind control scheme to assassinate Queen Elizabeth”. Priscilla Presley, George Kennedy, OJ Simpson and Ricardo Montalban co-star.

The fast-paced film blends a mix of slapstick comedy, physical humor, verbal puns and visual gags. It has made multiple lists of the best comedies ever made and was a commercial hit – grossing $152.4 million from a budget of just $12 million.

At last report a reboot of the property is in the works starring Liam Neeson, directed by Akiva Schaffer and produced by Seth MacFarlane. Earlier this year Neeson said he was still waiting on a script and hoped to shoot this Summer – but the strikes ended that possibility.

Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who penned the recent “Chip n’ Dale Rescue Rangers” satire film, were previously attached to write a new draft of the script.
