Horror-centric production company Coin Operated has landed the screen rights to developer Bloober Team’s psychological horror video game “The Medium”.
A search is now underway for a writer and a director for the project that Gary Dauberman (“IT,” “The Nun”) and Mia Maniscalco will produce.
Set in post-communist Poland in the 1990s, the story unfolds mostly in a fictional abandoned resort in Krakow, which was the site of a massacre years before.
A woman named Marianne, who possesses psychic abilities, is called to unravel the mystery of the death of an innocent child.
In the game, Marianne can travel into the spirit realm and is able to inhabit both worlds simultaneously (via split screen) which aids in puzzle solving.
The work was praised for its visuals and soundtrack, less so for its gameplay, and led to Bloober taking on 2024’s remake of the award-winning “Silent Hill 2” to much acclaim.
Dauberman in a statement: “With its compelling story and incredibly cinematic visuals, The Medium is a natural for a feature film adaptation.” Dauberman recently produced the “Until Dawn” film adaptation of the famed PlayStation video game.
