Marvel Studios has only one more film release this year with the upcoming “The Marvels” movie and today EW has done an extensive feature piece on the upcoming film.
Though a direct sequel to “Captain Marvel,” the film also serves as a sequel to events seen in “Ms. Marvel,” “WandaVision” and “Secret Invasion” with key characters from each (Iman Vellani, Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris and Samuel L. Jackson) coming into play here.
The piece reveals The Skrulls will factor into the film though it’s not clear how. Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel has largely “left Earth” in the film as she faces threats across the galaxy, with Larson describing her character as having become a workaholic who has “lost touch with her heart and with family and friends”.
As we know the premise of the film involves the three characters finding themselves abruptly swapping places with each other after Danvers’ experience with an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary causes the trio’s powers to become entangled.
This is causing problems with Nick Fury’s work along with stirring up the issue that Fury has lost touch with Danvers since ‘Endgame’. Monica Rambeau hasn’t talked with her in a very long time either.
Director Nia DaCosta (“Candyman,” “Little Woods”) tells the outlet that her geekiness over the material got so much that Marvel’s Kevin Feige had to tell her to stop at one point:
“The biggest challenge was finding the balance between my point of view as a director and as a comic book nerd. Obviously, there are changes between the comics and the movies, and sometimes I’m like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa!’. Sometimes Kevin [Feige] would be like, ‘You’re being too much of a nerd. Please stop.'”
“The Marvels” arrives in cinemas on November 10th.
